Why Solar?
Solar energy uses the sun's rays to produce heat or electricity.
SunGrabber's technology uses the sun's natural energy in a cost-effective way to warm the water
 in your pool.

Solar energy:
Heats your pool to a warm, comfortable temperature. Is environment-friendly energy - free from the sun. Doubles your swim season with luxuriously warm water. Dramatically reduces or eliminates pool heating costs Adds value to your pool and to your home. The bottom line is Solar pool heaters use natural solar energy in an easy, safe, and cost-effective way.
How Does Solar Energy Work?
Heating your pool with solar energy is really quite simple.
Cold water is pumped from your pool through our patented solar tube
design where it is warmed by heat collected from the sun.
The warm water is then pumped back into your pool giving you luxuriously warm water
and plenty of extended swim time.

Why SunGrabber InGround Panels?

The SunGrabber™ solar heating system will quickly heat your in-ground pool with free,
reliable solar heat. A properly sized solar system working in conjunction with a solar blanket
will provide virtually all of the heat for your pool - free!

The SunGrabber™ Deluxe Solar System can supply 100% of your pool's heating needs.
The system circulates pool water through solar panels mounted on the roof and uses solar
energy to warm the water as it returns to the pool. The panels mount vertically on the roof and feature
1-1/2" headers. These large headers allow for excellent circulation through
the solar panels, thereby maximizing the solar efficiency.

SunGrabber™ systems are constructed to withstand all outdoor conditions and are backed by 10-Year Warranties. Systems are available with pairs of 2 'x10' or pairs of 2 'x12' panels; and come with a system kit that includes ball valve, check valve, vacuum relief valve, couplers, and tie-downs. Installation instructions and an owner's manual included.

Why Sungrabber™ Above Ground Panels

Sungrabber™ solar pool heater are better than a gas heater.

A solar pool heater can be less expensive up front than a gas heater, depending on the size of your pool. Once a solar pool heater is installed, your heat is FREE from the sun. With a gas heater you need to pay the gas company depending on how much you use the heater (your pool store can give you estimates for your area). In the spring and fall when you really need heat, you use the pool heater more, so it costs you more - but solar energy is still free. Also, solar is non-polluting, and it can cool your pool during hot months, something no gas heater can do.

Available in 2 - 2’ x 20’ pre-plumbed panels (hoses/clamps sold separately by your dealer)
Disc Unit
Heats a 16'-24' Round Pool
Increases your pool water temperature up to 10 degrees
Most efficient solar panel in the industry - producing over 80,000 BTUs a day
Compatible with your existing pool pump
10 year prorated warranty
Better than a gas heater - no gas line, no gas bills, no pollution

Made in the USA for quality you can count on

Your Pool - Factors to Consider When Using Solar Pool Heating

An effective solar pool heating system can be installed for almost any pool in any location. Your SunGrabber dealer is the best resource to determine the ideal installation for your individual home and pool configuration.

In addition to where you live, there are a number of factors that are considered when optimizing a solar pool heating system.

Return to Panel FAQ~s

Factor 1: What is the ideal orientation for my solar panels?
Go? Orientation Explanation
solar panel South The ideal orientation for your solar panels is a south-facing pitched roof, near the pool, with enough space for mounting the required number of panels.
solar panel West An installation on a west-facing roof works well for summer heating, in some installations the panel area may need to be increased.
solar panel East Eastern exposures tend to be less effective and, therefore, less economical. Increasing the panel area is the recommended approach for an eastern orientation.
solar pool panel North Northern exposures are not usually recommended, except in certain areas of the country.
Fortunately, the modular nature of the solar panel makes it easy to tailor the system to a specific site. Be certain that the orientation you select is not shaded by trees or other structures. Remember, the effectiveness of a solar system is directly dependent on the amount of direct sunlight that the panels receive.

Your SunGrabber dealer can work with you to identify the ideal orientation and location for your solar pool heating system.

Return to Panel FAQ~s

Factor 2: What is the best inclination for the solar panels?
Season Inclination
Year-Round Equal to the latitude of installation. For example, the panels for an installation in Tampa, Florida would be at 27 degrees of an angle since Tampa is located at 27 degrees latitude.
Summer Equal to the latitude minus 10 to 15 degrees.
Winter Equal to the latitude plus 10 to 15 degrees.
The inclination of the solar panels is less important than their orientation. However, the inclination should always exceed 10 degrees to ensure proper drainage.
Factor 3: How many panels will I need for my inground pool?
The "rule of thumb" for sizing a swimming pool solar heating system 60% to 80% of the pool's surface area in solar panels. For example, a 480 square foot pool (32 feet by 15 feet) needs 288 to 384 square feet of solar panel area.

Sungrabber™ Above Ground Panel Maintenance
Does the SunGrabberTM panel require maintenance?

The SunGrabberTM solar panel requires no maintenance beyond your standard pool winterizing procedures. (See the next question for information on winterizing your pool.)

What do I need to do to winterize my system?

The panel must be drained and stored before the first frost. If water is allowed to freeze in the panel, it may cause freeze damage.

To winterize your system

Turn off your pool pump.
Place the plugs given to you with your pool in the inlet and outlet of the pool.
Disconnect both of the hoses from the hose barbs on the solar heater.

Disconnect the hose from the pool inlet. Connect the hose from the pump to the inlet on the pool.
Remove the plugs from the inlet and outlet of the pool and check the hose clamps you just tightened for leaks.
Unscrew the white drain plug that's located on the panel end opposite the inlet and outlet.
Roll the panel and secure using the yellow/black -carrying strap. Tilt panel until water no longer comes out. Replace drain plug, and store the panel and plumbing in the garage or a shed until next spring.

Should I use a pool cover with a solar system?

A pool cover prevents evaporation loss, particularly at night. The cover traps the solar heat that has been added during the day. This is very complimentary to the solar system. The solar system can be viewed as actively adding heat. The cover retains that heat passively.

How much does it weigh?

The 2x20 panel alone weighs approximately 12.55 pounds. When it is full of water, it is approximately 40 pounds. Each 20' panel holds about 5 gallons of water.

Will the SunGrabberTM work OK with my pool equipment?

Of course. The SunGrabberTM system is designed to work with any common pool pump.

Why Fafco`s Bear Above Ground Pool Panel Kit?
fafco bear logo

Deluxe Solar Bear Above Ground Solar Heating System is manufactured by Fafco who are one of the premier companies in the solar industry. The all new Solar Bear Heating system is super efficient and long-lasting. Extra large 2” headers do not slow down your pool’s circulation and insure excellent solar heat transfer to your pool’s water.

Because of the large 2 " headers, rarely is more than one panel needed for most above ground pools. This above-ground solar heating system will raise your pool's temperature 10° or more using the sun's free energy. When used in conjunction with a solar blanket, it is all the heat you will need - no expensive heater to buy and maintain, and no costly gas bills.

Deluxe Solar Bear Above Ground Solar Heating System comes complete with a built it bypass valve, so you can divert the flow of water as needed. Also included are two 6-ft. hoses and four clamps to hook the system up to your filtration system. Solar Bear panels can be mounted on the ground, on a rack, or a nearby roof.

A Panel Add On Kit is also available which includes everything necessary to connect the panels together.

Can above ground pool solar panels be used to heat my inground pool?
fafco bear logo

We do not recommend using our AGP (above ground pool) systems on an inground pool.
Our AGP panels are manufactured to perform on AGP pools only.
They have a by-pass valve or disc built (molded) into the header pipe,
which diverts the water half way up the header pipe and forces it down through the panel,
therefore, creating an increase in back pressure. Although the panels appear similar,
the aboveground systems are designed to flow in series (from one panel to the next)
and inground systems are designed for parallel flow (through each panel simultaneously.
The AGP panels are designed to heat smaller bodies of water, rather than larger,
deeper inground pools. Most importantly, using our AGP panels on an inground pool will significantly
increase the amount of back pressure on ones inground pool pump.

Can inground pool solar panels be used to heat my above ground pool?

Your In Ground Pool System has been especially designed to heat your
inground pool most effectively. Inground pools are typically larger,
deeper bodies of water that may require up to 4 (4'x20') panels to heat effectively.
Manufactured without the center disc, the inground systems are designed
or parallel water flow, which in turn decreases the amount of backpressure
on your pump and filter. As long as your pump is adequate,
you may use inground pool solar panels on an above ground pool.
